Somalia Seminar - Piracy, Internal conflicts and its Maritime Implications

Protocol organised a small specialist seminar on Somalia and the connection between internal developments and threats to maritime security at the Regus business centre in Hellerup, Copenhagen. The seminar looked into the political situation in the different parts of Somalia, the stakeholders and assessed the security situation on land. Finally, the seminar discussed the developments in piracy including case stories, which among others were the Danish ship DANICA WHITE in 2007 and the SEABOURN SPIRIT in 2005 based on interviews with a range of people who had been involved in these cases. Participants were from a mixed group of government and private shipping from four countries.
